'Cater 2 U' criticised for "slavery promoting" lyrics 17 years after release

Seventeen years after its release, the single Cater 2 U by girl group Destiny's Child is being viewed differently by fans who now find its message outdated.
 
Thousands of fans have taken to social media calling for a petition to cancel the single. 
 
They have quoted specific lyrics from the 2004 song which they say promote slavery.
 
Cater 2 U was featured on Destiny's Child's final studio album Destiny Fulfilled
 
The song received mixed reviews because of its lyrics, however it peaked at number 14 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and number three on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
 
The single was ultimately certified platinum.
