The Canadian rapper was one the night's biggest winners taking home 12 trophies, including Top Artiste, Top Rap Artiste and Top Rap Album.
The history making feat means he has the most Billboard awards of any artiste with a tally of 27, officially dethroning singer Taylor Swift.
Swift who was nominated for two awards - Best Female Artiste and Top Touring Artiste, currently has 23 billboard awards.
The event, held on Wednesday in Las Vegas, featured performances from acts including Taylor Swift, BTS, Ciara, Mariah Carey and Madonna.
Cardi B, who was leading the nominees with 21 nominations in 18 categories, walked away with six awards for Top Rap Female Artiste, and Best Rap Song for I like it.
She also won Hot 100 Song, Best Collaboration, Radio Song and Top Selling Song awards for her track with Maroon 5 Girls Like You.
Top Female Artiste went to singer Arianna Grande, while Top R&B Artiste and Best Female R&B Artist went to singer Ella Mai.
The Weeknd copped the award for Top R&B Male Artiste and Jay Z and Beyonce won for top R&B tour.
