The prolific creator and show-runner behind such series as Girlfriends, The Game and Being Mary Jane, has signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix to create new original content.
Mara Brock Akil becomes the latest executive to sign with Netflix and joins a roster that includes Shonda Rhimes, who created Grey's Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder and Scandal.
The deal comes just ahead of the September 11 release date of her popular series Girlfriends on Netflix, marking the series' 20th anniversary.
As part of the multi-year agreement, Akil will write and produce scripted content and other creative projects for Netflix.
