DC Comics revealed on Monday that the new Superman Jonathan Kent is a bisexual character.
Kent, who goes by Jon in the new iteration of Superman, is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane and will soon begin a romantic relationship with a male reporter.
The same-sex relationship is just one of the ways that Jonathan is proving to be a different Superman than his famous father, as he tackles wildfires caused by climate change, prevented a high school shooting and protested the deportation of refugees.
DC comics in its quest for diversity stated that everyone needs heroes and they deserve to see themselves being represented in their heroes.
The news follows other recent attempts to add sexual fluidity to the world of comics as the latest version of Robin would have a boyfriend and Captain America is now a gay character.
