R. Kelly's music sales climb despite sex trafficking conviction

R&B singer R. Kelly's fall from grace has not hampered sales of his music.

The Chicago native who was found guilty of kidnapping, sexual exploitation of a child and racketeering in September, has seen his album sales increase by more than 500 per cent since his conviction.

Kelly's on-demand audio streams jumped 22 per cent, while his video streams increased to 23 per cent following YouTube's decision to ban two of his music channels.

Though the recent guilty verdict has prompted a pronounced spike in streams, his music has been well played throughout the entirety of 2021.

R. Kelly's singles have in fact been more streamed this year than in 2017, despite witnesses at his high-profile trial revealing horrific acts he carried out against them.

Kelly is scheduled to be sentenced on May 4 of next year.
