Ripley's denies claims that Kim Kardashian damaged Marilyn Monroe dress

Ripley's Believe It or Not! has denied claims that Kim Kardashian damaged Marilyn Monroe's iconic "Happy Birthday" dress that she wore in 1962 to serenade then-President John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday.

Kardashian wore the nude-coloured dress for just a few minutes at the Met Gala in May.

Since then, photos have been posted on social media with what appeared to be new damage to the 60-year-old archival piece.

Ripley's stated that soon after the gala, care was taken in the handling of the dress and no alterations were allowed.

It added that it maintained the same condition from the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top, where it was returned.

She then changed into a replica after reaching the top of the stairs.

A 2017 Ripley's report written on the dress's condition stated that a number of the seams were pulled and worn.
