R.Kelly jury to be kept confidential

A federal judge in Chicago today ruled that the jury deliberating R. Kelly's fate will remain confidential, citing harassment risks.

The disgraced R&B singer, born Robert Sylvester Kelly, will stand trial on child pornography charges on August 15.

Attorneys for Kelly and his co-defendants argued that the special, secretive treatment could unfairly influence jurors by signaling that their clients posed a risk.

Judge Harry D. Leinenweber stated that there was good reason to shield the jurors' identities from the public, as large groups of people have been actively expressing their disagreement with his treatment.

The ruling follows charges brought against a fan named Christopher Gunn, who threatened the government attorneys who handled Kelly's previous trial in Brooklyn.
