Spice responds to backlash over her upcoming performance at LGBTQ event

Dancehall artiste Spice has defended her choice to perform at an LGBTQ event in Canada next year after facing backlash from members of the local entertainment fraternity.

Fellow artiste Sizzla Kalonji is among the vocal voices, using social media to admonish Spice for her participation in the event.

In his post, he stated that Jamaica's indigenous music bashes homosexuality and insisted that reggae and dancehall should not be mixed with what he calls "practices that go against the Jamaican culture".

Deejay Foota Hype also voiced his disapproval, prompting Spice to respond.

In a lengthy Instagram post published on Friday, Spice made it clear that her music does not discriminate, and that she will continue to represent for her fans no matter their race or sexual identity.
