Growth seen in private securities market between 2017-2020

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says Jamaica's private securities market grew by 100 per cent between 2017 and last year with the value of  bond issuance transactions doubling to $400 billion.
He says when compared to the banking sector, which recorded loan growth ranging between 16 and 35 per cent during the period, this indicates that there is an explosion of interest in private securities.
Speaking during this week's digital launch of the Jamaica Stock Exchange private market, Dr. Clarke said the heightened interest in private securities was due in part to the Government reducing borrowing.
He says this has resulted in surplus funds becoming available for other activities including private bond issues.
