Third Supplementary Estimates tabled

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke yesterday tabled the third supplementary estimates of  expenditure for the current financial year to include the newly created Ministry of  Legal and Constitutional Affairs.

However, there is no change in spending.

He told the House of  Representatives that the new estimates became necessary because of  the transfer of  some state entities.

“Specifically the third supplementary estimate provides for the closure of the Ministry of Housing, Urban Renewal and Environment  and moving all of its functions to the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job creation and this also results in the Forestry Department which is a department  the former Housing Ministry, moving  and becoming a department of the ministry of Economic Growth . The Supplementary also provides for the establishment of t he new Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs,” the Finance Minister said.

Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee will meet today to consider the estimates.

Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson, expressed concern that two estimates of  expenditure had been tabled this month.

“I know Prime Minister’s have the prerogative to make changes to Cabinets but we must incorporate better planning. Because it takes a lot of Parliament’s time. For me really, two weeks after passing the second one,I believe that it is an indication of what I would call bad planning,” he said .
