Developing countries and the international community are being encouraged to take steps to speed up recovery after the worst of the COVID-19 crisis has passed and blunt long-term adverse effects.
The information is contained in the World Bank Group's Global Economic Prospects report, a section of which was released Tuesday.
The World Bank says short-term response measures to address the health emergency and secure core public services will need to be accompanied by comprehensive policies to boost long-term growth.
