15 more COVID-19 deaths; hospitalisations reach 540

There has been a sharp increase in COVID-19 related deaths in Jamaica and the number of persons hospitalised with the virus.
 
The Ministry of Health says COVID-19 has claimed 15 more lives.
 
The death toll is now 2,551.
 
Ten of the latest deaths occurred in St. Catherine, four in Kingston and one in St. Thomas. 
 
Hospitalisations have climbed to 540 from 486 on Sunday.
 
Fifty of the patients are severely ill, while 11 are in critical condition.
 
At the same time, Jamaica's COVID-19 positivity rate remains higher than 50 per cent.
 
The ministry says 1,548 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Monday from 4,341 samples.
 
This resulted in a positivity rate of 51.5 per cent.
