20 more people die from COVID-19 in Jamaica

There has been a sharp increase in the COVID-19 death toll in Jamaica.
 
The Ministry of Health is reporting that the virus has claimed 20 more lives.
 
The death toll is now 2,153.
 
Seventeen of the deaths were recorded in Hanover, two in St. Mary and one in Portland.
 
The fatalities occurred during the period from August 23 to October 19.
 
Three more deaths are being investigated.
 
The ministry says COVID-19 hospitalisations declined on Thursday to 339.
 
Thirty-three of those admitted are severely ill and 23 are in critical condition.
 
At the same time, 173 cases of the virus were confirmed on Thursday from 1,067 samples. 
 
The positivity rate is 15.7 per cent. 
 
Some 87,970 people in Jamaica have contracted COVID-19 since the onset of the virus in March last year.
