70 new COVID-19 infections, but nine more deaths on Tuesday

Jamaica recorded 70 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday.

The new infections came from 181 samples, for a positivity rate is 36.1 per cent.

Deaths from the disease continue to be worryingly high however with nine more people dying from the disease, taking the total to 631.

Hospitalisations remain high as well, with 417 patients, of whom 37 are deemed critically ill.

Among the newly infected, 36 are from the Corporate Area, and 11 from the adjoining parish of St. Catherine.

Four parishes - Clarendon, St. Elizabeth, St. Mary, and Trelawny - did not register any new infection.

There have been 41,400 confirmed infections since the first case was recorded on March 10, 2020.
