Belize reports outbreak of Virulent Newcastle Disease in poultry

Belize on Thursday said it has notified the World Organisation for Animal Health of two outbreaks of Virulent Newcastle Disease in backyard poultry in at least two districts.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) said disease investigations were conducted after poultry farmers reported high mortality.
BAHA's Central Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory detected Newcastle Disease in samples submitted and the findings were confirmed by a US laboratory.
It said following confirmation and notification, an Emergency Task Force has been activated to develop and implement control measures.
