Ree-Anna Robinson, Public Relations Officer for the National Secondary Students' Council and Dr. Wayne Wesley, Chief Executive Officer of CXC
Pressure is mounting on the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) following claims of inconsistent CSEC and CAPE results released last week.
CXC has said the discrepancies with the grades are being exaggerated.
However, Ree-Anna Robinson, Public Relations Officer for the National Secondary Students' Council, is challenging CXC's response.
Speaking Monday morning on TVJ's Smile Jamaica programme, Ms Robinson said she has seen instances where students received similar profiles, but different grades.
"A student sent in their results and one had a 'A,B,C' profile for a (grade) one and the same 'A,B,C' profile with a (grade) three. So these things, the inconsistencies there don't really make much sense to the students, especially the fact that they will be going in with the same IA grade. Even some teacher have explained to us as well that their students are going in with 100 per cent as a group IA, and one student has come out with a one, the other student has come out with a four, the other student has come out with a five.
However, Dr. Wayne Wesley, Chief Executive Officer of CXC, has sought to explain that students' internal assessments or IAs are not the sole factor in determining their grades.
"The IA is not the only component that is used to determine the student grade, and secondly, the IA grade received by any student is not the final grade because of the moderation exercise... There is also the multiple choice component," he indicated.
