District constable arrested

A district constable has been arrested, allegedly after he tried to smuggle contraband into a correctional facility in Kingston on Sunday.

Thirty-two year-old Shane Newby of Ewarton, St. Catherine has been charged with introducing contraband in a correctional institution and illegal possession of  ganja.

The police reported that, about 9:50 Sunday morning Mr. Newby was on duty at the facility.

A correctional officer reportedly became suspicious when he saw him walking in a strange manner.

Mr. Newby was searched and five parcels containing ganja allegedly found in one of his shoes.

He is scheduled to appear in the Kingston & St. Andrew Parish Court on November 10.
