The Guyana Police Force is reporting that eight uniformed guards from the Presidential Guard Unit have tested positive for COVID-19.
In a brief statement, the police force said random tests were done and the positive results were returned.
The first two tests date back to early April while the recent tests were conducted just over two weeks ago.
The Presidential Guard Unit provides security for the President and Prime Minister as well as their official residences.
It's reported that the guards who tested positive are not those who are part of the Body Protection Unit which provides direct services for the Head of State.
To date, there are 69 active cases of coronavirus in Guyana.
