Radio Jamaica's correspondent Lloyd Hinds and an eyewitness to the crash

A fisherman is dead and 11 other people injured following a two-vehicle crash along the Llandovery main road in St. Ann.

He has been identified as 40-year-old Walwayne Smith, of Steer Town in St. Ann.

Police say the incident occurred sometime before 7:30.

Reports are that Mr. Smith and two others were returning from a fishing trip when they collided with a bus owned by Guardsman security company.

The two men who were travelling with Mr. Smith are said to have sustained serious injuries.

Security officers who were in the Guardsman bus were also injured.

The crash caused a massive pile-up of traffic as the police, firefighters and the ambulance rushed to secure the wounded people, who were taken to St. Ann's Bay Regional Hospital.

But an eyewitness to the crash raised other concerns to Radio Jamaica News

He criticised the practice of people seeking to capture footage at crash scenes instead of rendering assistance.

"All mi deh pon, 'One a unuh come help me tek out di man outta eh car nuh', everybody tan up deh a video.... 'Cause me spin round eh car fi go back hospital way, and nobody nah help," he lamented.

Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, Commanding Officer for St. Ann, said there has been an increase in road crashes in St. Ann this year, compared with 2021.
