Prime Minister Andrew Holness has instructed government ministries to cut their budgets to help raise funds to cover a portion of the massive bill to repair roads which were damaged by the recent flood rains.
Mr. Holness told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that the preliminary estimate of damage is close to two billion dollars.
About one billion will be spent shortly to commence repairs.
In light of fiscal constraints facing his administration, the Prime Minister said budgetary changes will have to be made.
He stressed that the financing of the repairs was "about reallocation and not about new funding, as we have already gone through the second supplementary estimates and therefore there's no additional funding for the government's response."
