Gov't and Amber Group's relationship unchanged despite JAMCOVID breach, suggests Morgan

Robert Morgan

Robert Morgan, State Minister in the Ministry of Information, has suggested there is no bad blood between the government and the developers of the JAMCOVID application following weaknesses identified on the website.

Asked at a post Cabinet press briefing Wednesday morning whether the issue had affected the government's relationship with the Amber Group, Mr. Morgan said he could not report on "any information out there...regarding the relationship".

He argued that while "challenges were unearthed" on the site, the situation is not unique as there have been "recent cases where the Pentagon... [and] several other major websites were hacked."

"I think what is important is the actions post finding out the information, and based on my communications with the Ministry of National Security, they are currently looking at every single government websites (sic) to see if there are any vulnerabilities there and also to fix whatever vulnerabilities," he pointed out.

On Tuesday, Chief Executive Officer of the Amber Group, Dushyant Savadia, responded to reports of a second vulnerability on the JAMCOVID website.

Mr. Savadia said the exposed file contained expired information, along with links that were redundant.

In a statement, Mr. Savadia explained that the files did not contain personal information from users nor did they enable access to such information.

Mr. Morgan said he expects the National Security Ministry will in a matter of days provide an update on the audit conducted on the JAMCOVID website.
