Educational institutions at the primary and secondary level will see changes to the formula used to determine the amount of money they receive from the government through subvention.
Education Minister Fayval Williams says one of the recommendations coming out of the Patterson report for the transformation of education is for the funding model to be re-examined to ensure equity.
Schools are currently funded on a per-child basis, with each school receiving the same amount per student.
But Minister Williams says work has already started on re-engineering the formula used to determine the allocation per institution.
She said although the current formula is transparent, the change will enhance equity, especially for schools that are "in greater need".
With schools already stating that they need an increase in the amount of money allotted to carry out their functions, the minister said there should be a discussion among all stakeholders.
"As you can imagine, if a school used to get X and it's determined that they get X less because some other school that's very very in need gets it, you can imagine how that's going to be. So, this is one that we have to be certain of," she noted.
