Guyana: GRA reports alarming rise in attempts to smuggle drugs in barrels, packages

The Guyana Revenue Authority says it has observed that over the past few months there has been an alarming increase in the efforts to smuggle refined narcotic drugs and other such illicit items through personal consignments at all ports of entry.

Recently, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit seized quantities of cannabis found in personal effects consignments and suitcases, which led to several persons being arrested and placed before the court.

The Revenue Authority says, together with its sister agencies and the Guyana Police Force, it intends to pursue and minimize all such illicit activities.
