Health Ministry to discontinue use of Remdesivir to treat COVID-19

The Ministry of Health is to discontinue use of the anti-viral drug Remdesivir after the batch that was recently procured is depleted.
 
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie made the disclosure Friday on Radio Jamaica's Hotline programme.
 
Remdevisir is administered to COVID-19 patients with low oxygen levels.
 
A World Health Organization (WHO) study found that the drug has little to no effect on patients' chances of survival.
 
Dr. Bisasor McKenzie said the decision to not procure more supplies of  Remdesivir in is light of the WHO findings.
