High repair bill expected as a result of heavy rains

The heavy rains over the last week have wreaked havoc across the island with a number of communities flooded and roads damaged.

The Government is now bracing for a hefty repair bill.

Residents of some flooded communities have relocated.

A number of roads have been scoured by flood waters while others are blocked by landslides and debris.

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie told Radio Jamaica News that the damage is significant.

He said Cabinet will discuss the situation today and that teams will begin the daunting task of  assessing the damage.
