Illegal gun found at site of hostage situation on Molynes Road

As investigators continue to probe Monday night's standoff involving the police and gunmen at a lottery outlet at the corner of Seaward Drive and Molynes Road in St. Andrew, the three suspects taken into custody are now facing a long list of charges.

Deputy Superintendent Percival Anderson, Crime chief for the St. Andrew Central Police Division, told RJR News that members of the Caribbean Search Centre Unit returned to the establishment on Tuesday and found an illegal firearm believed to have been hidden by the gunmen during the near four-hour stand-off.

The .38 revolver, containing six rounds of ammunition, was found behind a toilet.

The drama unfolded shortly after 8 o'clock Monday night, when three gunmen entered the establishment and robbed patrons of cash.

The cops were alerted and when they arrived, one of the gunmen exited the building and was arrested.

The other two gunmen remained inside and held the business operator and patrons hostage.

During the hostage crisis, the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Special Weapons and Tactical Team (SWAT) was called in.

After negotiations, the police de-escalated the situation and the other two robbers surrendered shortly before midnight.

No one was injured in the incident.
