The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is reporting a 35 per cent reduction in the number of persons killed by the police during the first quarter of this year when compared to the same period in 2018.
Twenty-two people were killed by the police between January and March. This is down from 34 in 2018.
Despite the reduction, INDECOM Commissioner Terrence Williams said the number of police related fatal shootings is still too high.
"Jamaica's fatal shooting numbers even with this decline is one of the highest in world, even higher than many other places which are war-torn," he admitted.
