Jamaican man imprisoned in Cayman

A Jamaican man who entered the Cayman Islands illegally and was found in possession of  two firearms and ammunition is to spend more than two years in prison.
 
Andrew Beckford was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 months for each count of  gun possession and four months for the ammunition. 
 
The sentences are to run concurrently.
 
Beckford was also sentenced to one month for illegal entry into Cayman and six months for one count of  ganja importation and supplying the drug.
 
He was charged following a major drug bust on May 21, 2020. 
 
The police spotted a canoe in the Spotts Beach area, in George Town and several packages containing ganja, the two handguns and 61 rounds of  ammunition were reportedly found on the boat.
