Jamaica's COVID-19 positivity rate rises to 33.5%

There has been a sharp increase in Jamaica's COVID-19 positivity rate.
 
It is now at 33.5 per cent, up from 24.2 per cent on Tuesday.
 
The Ministry of Health says 87 infections were detected from 290 samples on Wednesday.
 
A 92-year-old woman from St. Ann is the latest person to die from the virus.
 
Jamaica's COVID-19 death toll is now 3,199.
 
Three other deaths are being investigated.
 
COVID-19 hospitalisations have declined by one to 104.
 
Seven of the patients are severely ill and four in critical condition.
 
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health said there could be an increase in COVID-19 cases in Jamaica as the highly transmissible Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants have been detected in the island.
