Tifonie Powell, General Secretary of the JCSA
The Jamaica Civil Service Association [JCSA] has cited what it says is a need for more consultation among stakeholder groups about the impact of climate change, and for workers to adapt to these changes.
The Association says discussions around changes that will have an impact on workers due to climate change will be part of collective bargaining agreements going forward.
Tifonie Powell, General Secretary of the JCSA, addressing the issue on Thursday pointed to various categories of workers who continue to work in clothing not suitable for the changing temperatures.
She cautioned that, while they are expected to adapt to these changes, employers also must be prepared to facilitate them doing so.
Powell was addressing the JCSA's Manchester Chapter, Awards Ceremony at the ManchesterParish Library in Mandeville.
She also expressed concern about the treatment meted out to civil servants as they carry out their duties, and questioned whether civil servants get the appreciation they deserve.
Mayor of Mandeville, Donovan Mitchell, who brought greetings, also urged workers to ensure they set aside savings, in preparation for retirement.
Several people were recognised for their length of service and contribution to nation building in various fields of work.
Among them were two members of the media.
