Men held in connection with attacks on lives of cops and their families

Three men have been taken into police custody in connection with investigations into what is believed to have been coordinated attacks on the lives of members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and their families.

In a statement this morning, the JCF said there are three such incidents since last night.

However, the JCF says it is unable to disclose further details due to the very sensitive nature of this high level investigation.

As a result of these attacks, the Police High Command has raised the threat level for violence against members of the JCF to high.

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says the JCF remains undeterred in its efforts to bring down criminal gangs.

The Police Commissioner is therefore imploring members of the JCF to be alert.

And a policeman was shot and injured by gunmen in East Kingston this morning.

About 5:30, a police patrol team responded to a robbery in the Manley Meadows housing scheme.

On the arrival of the cops, armed hoodlums opened fire on the service vehicle.

The Sergeant was shot in the shoulder.

During a running gunbattle, the gunmen escaped.
