President of the Nurses Association of Jamaica Patsy Edwards Henry

President of the Nurses Association of Jamaica Patsy Edwards Henry says nurses are among a large number of women in Jamaica who are subject to violence and abuse.

Mrs Edwards Henry says there have been several incidents in which nurses have had to be removed from abusive situations "We have somewhere that we call a safe home where when our nurses are experiencing violence we take them and we house them...it affects productivity and it affects the mental health [of nurses]."

She was speaking yesterday on the occasion of the Orange Day Walk which is part of the global effort to end violence against women and children.

Mrs.Edwards Henry led a march of nurses from Manchester and Clarendon from Percy Junior Hospital in Manchester in observance of the Global call.
