National Security Minister bemoans weekend killings

Dr. Horace Chang

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has disclosed that 25 people were killed over the weekend.

He made the disclosure on Monday during a tour of Quarry in St. James where five persons were shot, three fatally, on Sunday.

Dr. Chang revealed that on Friday, Jamaica had 18.5 per cent or about 10 fewer homicides than this time in 2020.

The minister bemoaned the weekend killings, revealing that the latest violence has derailed the country's crime statistics that had been slightly better than the same period last year.

He said the Special Operations Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force will be deployed to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the murders.
