Nine injured as gunmen attack Nannyville residents

Nine persons are now in hospital being treated for gunshot wounds after thugs carried out an attack Thursday night in Nannyville Gardens, St. Andrew.

A three-year-old boy is among the injured.

Reports are that about 8:00 o'clock residents were standing on Moore Town Way when a group of men walked up and opened fire hitting the nine individuals.

RJR News understands that the attack took place about an hour before a nightly curfew imposed by the police.

The injured persons were taken to hospital. Two of the men are reportedly in critical condition.

Some of the residents who spoke with our news team believe Thursday night's attack was gang related.

Andrew Swaby, Councillor for the Vineyard Town Division, has since requested that the police increase their presence in the community.

Mr. Swaby is also upset that efforts to maintain peace in Nannyville have been thwarted.

‘I must tell you that I’m upset and I’m upset due to the fact that we had a community meeting in Nannyville with the police and with residents and we’ve been talking about how we have to keep our place safe, and working with the police. To my surprise, I was in a meeting when I received a call that the shooting took place,” said Mr. Swaby.
