NPTAJ President Stewart Jacobs
The National Parent Teachers' Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) has given the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica (BCJ) the thumbs up for issuing the directive banning recorded material that promotes and glorifies illegal activities on radio stations and free-to-air television.
NPTAJ President Stewart Jacobs said children are impressionable and steps must be taken to protect them from harmful content.
He warned that as students watch this harmful content being played out in front of them in society, they seek to emulate it with their peers in schools.
The NPTAJ urged society to "go back to some civility with their type of rhetoric that is said in public space".
He noted that the change "has to start somewhere" and commended the BCJ for taking the step.
Mr. Jacobs was a guest on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.
