Revenue protection teams from the National Water Commission (NWC) have commenced a major drive to recover millions of dollars in arrears from customers in St. Elizabeth.
During the operation, which started in Burnt Savannah, sixty premises were disconnected and ten persons prosecuted for trespassing on the works of the NWC.
A senior NWC Revenue Collection Officer said the operation is slated to last three days.
Meters will be attached to pipes in Burnt Savannah where customers are paying a flat rate for water.
During Wednesday's operation, it was discovered that more than 80 per cent of NWC customers in the community are in arrears, with some owing to more than $150,000.
