Person of interest arrested in connection with Portmore shooting

The police have arrested a person of interest in connection with Tuesday's shooting on the Hellshire main road in Portmore, St. Catherine.

The man was among five people shot in the incident.

Winston Jones, 60, was killed when he was struck by a stray bullet.

Radio Jamaica News understands that the person of interest was shot and injured during an exchange of gunfire between men on a motorcycle and men in a car.

He was lying on the road when several persons, including a soldier and a security guard, went to render assistance.

But the car with gunmen returned and opened gunfire on the group, hitting several of them.

The soldier is in hospital in serious condition.

Investigators believe rival gangs from Coburn Gardens in the St. Andrew South division were involved in the incident.
