Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips has dismissed suggestions that he was vindictive in omitting former spokesman on health Dr. Dayton Campbell from the Shadow Cabinet.

Dr. Campbell was campaign manager for Peter Bunting, who challenged Dr. Phillips for leadership of the People's National Party in the September 7 internal election.

Responding to journalists at a media briefing on Monday, Dr. Phillips said he had indicated his intention to reorganise the Shadow Cabinet and "took the best judgement in relation to all the persons concerned, taking into account contributions which are not restricted only to parliamentary performance, (but) the political needs of the party, the needs of the country and the various sectors (and) the views of persons in the various sectors."

"I live or die, sink or swim on the basis of the decisions that I have made to the best of my ability and the best of my judgement at this point in time," he declared.
