PNP candidate in Portland Eastern cites anomalies in voting process

PNP candidate in Portland Eastern Bishop Purcell Jackson and JLP candidate Ann-Marie Vaz

PNP candidate in Portland Eastern Bishop Purcell Jackson is claiming that several anomalies were discovered this morning.

"A lot of people have to some PD and have found out that their name is on the list on the outside. When they get on the inside, their names can't be found. We have a police officer as well that his name was sent all the way in Hanover. He's never lived of worked there. I'm not sure how that could be... But it's consistent along that line and it's too much case not to be concerned about," he contended.

Bishop Jackson is calling for an investigation. He is concerned that the anomalies could be the result of "delaying tactics going on" or "some kind of skulduggery involved as it relates to undermining the machinery on the ground."

Vaz confident

In the meantime, the JLP candidate for Portland Eastern, Ann-Marie Vaz has expressed confidence in retaining the seat although the voter turnout is low in the constituency.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News, Mrs Vaz said "the JLP is looking good in every PD (polling division)" she visited.

She said her party is leading in all the polling divisions based on the 1 o'clock tally.

Mrs Vaz defeated the PNP's Damion Crawford by 306 votes in a by-election in April last year.

The by-election ended the PNP's 30-year reign in the constituency.
