Police searching home of religious leader Kevin Smith

Reporter Kirk Wright

Radio Jamaica News has been informed that police are conducting a search of the home of Dr. Kevin Smith, the leader of Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries in Montego Bay, St. James.

The team of investigators, including the Major Investigations Division, arrived at Smith's home in Coral Gardens about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

They were accompanied by firefighters who cut the padlock to the gate to allow them access.

The house has been cordoned off as the police carryout the search.

Investigators had to abort plans to search the home of the religious leader on Wednesday as they were unable to enter the padlocked property.

Mr. Smith remains in police custody following Sunday night's deadly incident at his organisation's compound in Albion Meadows, in which three people died - two in a human sacrifice ritual and the other shot dead by police when they were fired on as they entered the premises.

On Tuesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Clifford Chambers told Radio Jamaica News that Mr. Smith is being investigated for several offences.

ACP Chambers said members of Pathways International are cooperating with investigators.
