Population and Housing Census coming in 2022

The Statistical Institute of  Jamaica (STATIN) says the Population and Housing Census has been postponed until April next year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The census was initially scheduled for April this year.

STATIN said data collection for the pilot phase of the census will begin in February this year.

Director General Carol Coy explained the process at a virtual media briefing on Wednesday.

"The pilot...Its not the large numbers that we expect when we go out in the full census. STATIN has converted its data collection for its household surveys to tablets. So we will be using tablets for the survey," Ms. Coy said.

Ms. Coy noted that the pilot phase is a fundamental part of the census planning process.

She said it allows for a comprehensive test of all census processes.

The data will be collected from a sample of dwellings selected from all fourteen parishes.
