Review of salaries for rank and file police officers to begin in April

Dr. Nigel Clarke

A review of salaries paid to rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force is scheduled to begin in April this year.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke made the disclosure in the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Dr. Clarke also reacted cautiously to the legal action taken against the government by the Police Federation, noting that "a dignified silence is the preferred approach".

The Police Federation filed a lawsuit in 2019 against the ministries of finance and national security, the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner, complaining that its members have been working more than 40 hours per week without being paid.

The Federation argued that this was in breach of the 2008 heads of agreement.
