Short term ban on funerals and burials

The Jamaican Government has placed a ban on funerals and burials throughout the island for the next three weeks, as efforts are increased to stem the tide of COVID-19 infections and deaths.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness who announced the decision a short while ago, said exceptions will be granted for those instances in which arrangements for funerals and interment had previously made for the week, March 1 to March 7.

In those instances, he said, the existing restrictions on the number mourners and other attendant measures remain in place for those exceptions.

Mr Holness also announced that places of worship will have to resume having online services only, but a maximum of ten members of each congregation will be allowed to be physically in the building to conduct the service.
