Suspect in murder of cop killed by police

Superintendent Damion Manderson and the mother of Javani Rodney who was killed by the police on Tuesday morning


A person of  interest in the fatal shooting of  Police Sergeant Averel McCollin in Portmore, St Catherine was killed Tuesday morning during an operation carried out by the security forces in the community of  Payne Land off  Spanish Town Road in Kingston.

A firearm and ammunition were reportedly seized.

The deceased has been identified as Javani Rodney otherwise called Pim Pim.

Superintendent Damion Manderson from the St Andrew South police division told Radio Jamaica News that the gun and ammunition were taken from Mr Rodney.

He said several persons of  interest were also detained during the cordon and search operation, which was in response to gang conflict in Payne Land.

Sergeant McCollin was killed on the morning of  September 19 in Gregory Park.

At the time of his killing, he was attached to the Hunts Bay police station.
Cold blood?
The mother of Javani Rodney has denounced the actions of the security forces, saying her son was killed in cold blood.

She claims that he was dragged from his bed and shot.
