The Ministry of Education has received complaints from teachers that the tablet computers it provided for online classes are not effective.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry Dr. Grace McLean revealed this problem at Tuesday's meeting of Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee.
The teachers have reported that the devices are challenging to use with the Google Classroom platform, she told the committee.
The education ministry has revealed that it provided more than 26,000 tablets to teachers in 2020 and 2021.
Each teacher has a tablet, but Dr McLean said the focus has now shifted to the procurement of laptop computers, "starting with the provision of five thousand... in the first phase."
