The bodies of three people, said to be from Jamaica, have been found in a house in New York City.

One of the bodies was bound with electrical cords and duct tape in the second-floor bedroom of  the Queens home, with the other two victims - a mother and son - locked in a basement room.

The victims have been identified as 22 year-old Varshana Malcolm, 55-year-old Karlene Barnett, and her son 36-year-old Dervon Brightly.

Miss Malcolm's body was found on the bed with the hands taped together and the mouth also taped. It had stab wounds to the chest and neck.

The other two bodies had stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the head.

According to US media reports, Miss Malcolm was a family friend visiting from Jamaica.

The police said the bodies were in the house for at least three days before they were discovered on Friday by Miss Barnett's other son.

The police said it was not immediately clear why the three victims were targeted.
