Transport operators told to pay up traffic tickets

By Kimone Witter

Transport operators have been advised to pay their outstanding traffic tickets as they await the government's response to their call for a payment plan.

Egeton Newman, head of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS), made the announcement at media briefing on Tuesday.

Mr. Newman reiterated that transport operators are not seeking an amnesty or tickets to be written off but said, given the financial strain that operators face, the implementation of a payment plan would help them remain in good standing with the law.

Minister of Transport Audley Shaw was expected to take the matter to Cabinet for discussion and a decision on the way forward.

No further word has been forthcoming from the government, which has said it would not be granting a ticket amnesty at this time.
