Trelawny Police devise plan to better respond to conflicts

Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, Commanding Officer for the Trelawny Police Division

The Trelawny Police Division has devised a plan to respond more effectively to conflicts which have in some cases resulted in deaths.

Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, Commanding Officer for the division, says, while there has been a significant reduction in gang type murders for this year, the same cannot be said for argument conflicts, domestic disputes and revenge reprisals.

Superintendent Ricketts says based on the realisation that residents cannot, on their own, resolve conflicts, the division has launched a dispute tracking mechanism.

"So, it's not a case where the police would respond to a report of threat and to say warn the person who actually made the threat against the person reported the incident. What we want to do is to is to follow the matter even after the first response by the police, we want to follow the matter through to what we hope to be a natural conclusion to the situation. So, it simply means that you will see the police returning to the location and maybe different police officers, they’re tasked on a daily basis that we have a dispute ongoing in this particular area of the community (so) please check on Mr. Johnson and Miss Jean," he explained.

He said the police have partnered with the clergy and the Lay Magistrates Association.
