T&T identifies first case of new COVID-19 variant

Health officials in Trinidad and Tobago have urged the population not to panic following the discovery of the first case of the UK variant.

The Ministry of Health said the person who tested positive for the variant travelled from the UK.

The patient had provided a negative PCR test which was taken 72 hours prior to departure.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh on Friday said there would be no new restrictions or protocols in the twin-island republic.

Speaking at a virtual news conference, Mr. Deyalsingh said the case has been successfully contained by existing quarantine protocols.
