Westmoreland health centres robbed of tents and benches

Errol Greene, Director of the Western Regional Health Authority and Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton

Three tents and ten benches have been stolen from two health centres in Westmoreland in recent weeks.

An appeal is being made for the communities to assist in preventing a recurrence.

The stolen items are valued at more than $3 million.

Errol Greene, Director of the Western Regional Health Authority, said the latest incident occurred on Thursday morning at the Whitehouse Health Centre.

"We're appealing to persons to be vigilant. We're also appealing to persons to be sensitive and not be callous, because the tents are provided there to help persons seek the service and be treated in a comfortable environment; and when they're stolen, they are very expensive to replace and it causes very severe hardship on those who will have to seek the services," he pointed out.

Two large tents were stolen from the Negril Health Centre about a month ago.

Mr. Greene said there was no static security at the Whitehouse and Negril health centres when the robberies occurred.

He said it is too costly to hire security guards for health centres and clinics. However, there are security cameras.

Mr. Greene reiterated his call for community members to be vigilant and watchful to ward off vandals.
